Heat oil and butter over medium heat in a medium skillet or saucepan.
Cook turkey until browned on both sides, about 4 minutes per side. Remove from pan.
Add onion and cook until soft or 5 minutes.
Add garlic, spices, a pinch of salt and pepper and cook 1 minute.
Add rice and cook another minute or two.
Return the turkey to the pan and pour in the stock. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 30 minutes or until rice is tender and turkey is cooked through.
To serve, top with dates, almonds, and cilantro. If desired, serve with plain yogurt.
