1 lb. of ground Canadian Turkey (or a quarter pound per person)
1 large spanish or vidalia onion OR 4-5 shallots, sliced
4 tbsp (quarter cup) butter
1 tbsp steak spices
4-6 slices of Swiss cheese
4 slices of large country bread, cut in half
2 tbsp mayonnaise
Mayonnaise sauce
¼ cup of mayonnaise
2 tsp Dijon or Spicy brown mustard
1 tsp chopped pickled jalapeños
Directions
Make your turkey patties (see tip below) and keep in the fridge.
Cook the onion slices in 1 tbsp butter, at low-medium heat until caramelized.
Season your patties to taste with steak spices. Place patties on plancha or large frying pan and grill for 5 minutes. Flip, add cheese slices and keep on grill until desired brown and internal temperature reaches 165°
Meanwhile, prepare the mayonnaise sauce by combining all the ingredients.
Spread the mayonnaise sauce on the inside of the bread slices and top with caramelized onions.
Once the patties are cooked, place on top of the bread, add the other slice of bread. Spread mayonnaise on the outside of the bread slices and place back to the grill or plancha to grill while pressing the sandwich.
Grill the sandwiches until golden brown
Tips:
Measure the size of your turkey patties by making patties about 1 inch larger than the size of your bread slices (patties will shrink while cooking).
Season your patties right before cooking.
Prepare the meatballs before going camping.
